Why I Created the Easy Key
A visual approach to harmony, scales, and musical pattern recognition.
Over the years of teaching music, I noticed something interesting.
A lot of people don’t actually struggle with music itself…
They struggle with the way music theory is often taught.
Too much memorisation.
Too many rules.
Too much information disconnected from actual sound and feeling.

I’ve also included links to all the original music featured throughout the video for those who have been asking about the soundtrack.
Most people can hear music naturally long before they can explain it intellectually.
So over time, I started searching for a simpler and more visual way to explain harmony, scales, chord relationships, and interval patterns without making people feel overwhelmed.
Eventually, this process evolved into something I now call the Easy Key.
The Easy Key is essentially a visual music theory system designed to help people see musical relationships more intuitively across the piano keyboard.
Rather than treating theory as abstract information, I wanted it to feel more like recognising patterns in nature.
Because in many ways… that’s what music really is.
Patterns.
Movement.
Tension and release.
Mathematics infused with emotion.
This week I finally uploaded a full DIY assembly video showing how to build your own Easy Key at home.
The build itself is relatively simple:
cardboard
glue
a printed PDF
a craft blade
and a little patience
What I enjoy most about projects like this is that they reconnect music learning with creativity and curiosity.
Learning music should feel inspiring.
Not intimidating.
